Technology Acceptable Use

School technology is provided to support learning, communication, research, creativity, and schoolwork. Students must use school devices, accounts, applications, internet access, and networks safely, honestly, respectfully, and responsibly.

Use school technology for learning. Protect your account and personal information, communicate respectfully, care for school property, follow staff directions, and report unsafe or inappropriate activity.

Our Technology Values & Student Responsibilities

Communication

  • Use thoughtful, appropriate language.
  • Remember that messages can be misunderstood.
  • Follow classroom expectations in email, shared documents, comments, and video meetings.

Privacy

  • Keep passwords and verification codes private.
  • Do not post personal information about yourself or another person.
  • Ask permission before sharing someone else’s photograph, message, or private information.

Honesty & Safety

  • Represent yourself honestly and use only your assigned account.
  • Do not engage in activity that places yourself or another person at risk.
  • Seek help when you feel unsafe, are bullied, or witness harmful behavior.

Learning

  • Use technology to develop ideas, research, create, and complete assigned work.
  • Evaluate whether online information is accurate and trustworthy.
  • Ask questions and seek help when using unfamiliar technology.

Respect for Others

  • Respond thoughtfully to the ideas, opinions, and values of others.
  • Do not send or share mean, inappropriate, threatening, or harmful content.
  • Do not photograph, record, or post another person without authorization.

Respect for Property

  • Take proper care of devices, chargers, cases, accounts, and school systems.
  • Do not remove labels, damage equipment, or change settings without permission.
  • Report damage, misuse, inappropriate content, or security concerns promptly.

School Technology Covered by These Rules

These rules apply whenever a student uses school-provided or school-managed technology, including use away from the school building.

Devices & Equipment

  • Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, and tablets
  • Chargers, cases, keyboards, mice, and accessories
  • Printers, cameras, interactive displays, and audiovisual equipment
  • School-issued hotspots or other assigned equipment

Accounts, Networks & Services

  • Google Classroom, ClassLink, Genesis, and approved learning platforms
  • School Wi-Fi, internet access, servers, and shared drives
  • Files, messages, assignments, and data stored in school systems

Personal phones and student-owned devices follow a separate rule. Review the Cell Phones & Personal Devices page for bell-to-bell and QuietCase procedures.

Internet Safety & Responsible Online Activity

The school uses internet filtering and other safeguards to reduce access to inappropriate or harmful material. Filters reduce risk but cannot block every unsafe website, message, image, or interaction.

  • Use only websites, applications, and online services approved for the assignment.
  • Tell a staff member immediately if inappropriate content appears.
  • Report attempts by an unknown or inappropriate person to contact you online.
  • Do not reply to suspicious messages or open unexpected links and attachments.
  • Do not enter a password into a website unless you know the page is legitimate.
  • Use reliable sources and evaluate whether online information is accurate.

Never send your password to another person. School staff will not ask a student to provide a password by email, text message, or online form.

Uses That Are Not Allowed

Students may not use school technology, accounts, applications, or networks to:

  • Bully, harass, intimidate, threaten, embarrass, impersonate, or target another person
  • Access, create, save, send, display, or share obscene, sexually explicit, hateful, violent, discriminatory, or otherwise inappropriate material
  • Take or share photographs, audio, video, screenshots, or screen recordings without authorization
  • Cheat, plagiarize, copy another person’s work, or submit work created by someone or something else as original work
  • Use another person’s account, share an account, guess passwords, or access another person’s files
  • Bypass filters, monitoring, or security using a proxy, VPN, unauthorized hotspot, alternate account, or other method
  • Install unauthorized games, software, applications, browser extensions, or device-management tools
  • Introduce malware, harmful code, automated attacks, or excessive traffic into a device or network
  • Remove asset tags, disable management tools, change restricted settings, or intentionally damage equipment
  • Use school technology for illegal activity, gambling, unauthorized business, advertising, or fundraising

Technology-related incidents are addressed through the Responsible Use Policy, Student Code of Conduct, academic-integrity expectations, and any other policy connected to the behavior. This webpage does not list disciplinary consequences.

Privacy, Filtering & Monitoring

Students should not expect activity on a school device, school account, school application, or school network to be private.

  • The school may use internet filters, device-management tools, security systems, and activity logs.
  • Authorized staff may review browsing history, websites visited, email, files, messages, settings, and account activity as permitted by law and policy.
  • Internet activity may be monitored and archived.
  • The school may block or restrict websites, applications, downloads, extensions, and features.
  • Students may not disable or avoid filtering, monitoring, security, or device-management tools.

Store only school-related material in a school account. Do not use a school account or device to store content that you would not want reviewed by authorized school personnel.

Notice About Device Activity & Recording Capabilities

School-issued electronic devices may contain cameras, location features, microphones, device-management software, or other technology capable of recording or collecting information about the device’s activity or use.

The school provides this notice so students and families understand that a school-issued device may record or collect information about how the device is being used. The school will use device-management and monitoring capabilities only as permitted by law and school policy.

Students must follow all Responsible Use rules when using a school-issued device at school or away from school. A student should report any concern about unexpected camera, microphone, location, or account activity to a staff member immediately.

Academic Honesty, Research & AI Tools

Research & Digital Content

  • Use reliable and appropriate sources.
  • Give credit for words, images, ideas, code, music, video, and data created by others.
  • Use quotation marks and citations when required.
  • Follow copyright and licensing requirements.
  • Do not copy answers or allow another student to copy your work.

Artificial Intelligence Tools

  • Use only school-approved AI tools and only when a teacher permits their use.
  • Follow the teacher’s directions about what assistance is allowed.
  • Review AI output for accuracy, bias, unsafe content, and made-up information.
  • Do not enter private or personally identifiable information into an AI tool.
  • Do not submit AI-generated work as your own.
  • Explain or cite AI assistance when required.

A website or tool being publicly available does not mean it is approved for school use. Students must follow the directions given for each assignment.

Caring for School-Issued Technology

  • Bring the assigned device and charger to school fully charged and ready to use.
  • Carry the device carefully and use the school-issued case when one is provided.
  • Keep food, drinks, liquids, and heavy objects away from the device.
  • Do not write on, bend, throw, hit, decorate, or place unauthorized stickers on the device.
  • Do not remove or cover the asset tag, serial number, barcode, or management label.
  • Do not attempt repairs or ask an outside repair shop to open or modify school equipment.
  • Report loss, theft, damage, or malfunction immediately.
  • Return the device, charger, case, and accessories when requested.

Provide the student’s name, grade, device asset tag when available, the system being used, and a clear description of the problem. Never send a password.

Student & Family Acknowledgment

Students are responsible for following these expectations when using school technology at school and away from school. Students understand that their actions can affect other people and that they are accountable for how they use school devices, accounts, networks, and online services.

Parents and guardians are asked to review these expectations with their student, encourage safe and responsible online behavior, supervise online activity at home when appropriate, and acknowledge that school-issued devices may contain features capable of recording or collecting information about device activity and use.

This webpage is informational and does not replace any separate student or parent signature form required by the school.
